Wow! What kind of magical library is this? Like a place that only a certain level of witches or whatever can go?
RUBI
No, this is the Los Angeles public library.

This way.
That moment you realize that you’ve been standing on the shoulders of a giant this whole time.
There are cell phones …but also card catalogs? I can handle an alternate reality full of magic, but not this apparently.
You are underestimating the institutional inertia libraries can have. Sure they COULD have everything in computer, but they are USED to work with paper catalogs …
Besides, look at how many shelves of card catalogs they have there, and ask yourself one question: “Would I want to be the one responsible for getting rid of all of those?”
In any case, aside from being perfectly functional, they also give a very “library” aesthetic.
Ohhh I love that Library. It’s stunning. You got the look of it in this and the previous comic perfectly.
Even with everything in computers, I still want them to print out card catalogs.
There’s something about the feel and form of interacting with them that’s just … better, imo…. than sitting down in front of another terminal. And besides, I always have that litany of ‘if they could put the card catalog online, then why not the text??’ that just leads me to dark thoughts about the kind of people who make money by deliberately inconveniencing other people.
