Yeah. Yeah, that’s fine, we’ll reach out if we’ve got any more questions.

MAGE #1
Rubi, the offer still stands. The Mage Society could use someone like you.
Rubi doesn’t look back.

Rubi doesn’t look back.
Kinda getting the feeling Rubi’s not a big fan of the Mage Society here.
It’s kinda like the Information Society; big in the day, but out of style now, and what have they dlone lately?
More like Mensa International.
You think? They seem a bit more official – at least enough that they can ask her for her license. OTOH, *police* don’t just have “open offers” to people.
My guess is, they’re somewhere between a trade union and a professional certification like the Bar Association.
Which I guess would be enough to explain Rubi’s dislike for them – from a freelancer’s perspective they’re obnoxious paperpushers who show up too late (they weren’t even at the magic festival incident!) and are more concerned with whether she has a license than in helping people.
I’m getting the vibe there’s more to it than that, though.
This is very very very close. Mages also work very closely with the police, and there’s not much trust there from Rubi’s end either.
I just like the way the presence of complex ambivalent feels were communicated from Rubi’s face in a single panel.
There there Tayheart, let’s get you some herbal tea and figure things out for you
